After spending a week learning SQL Server 2005 Notification Services (to include Architecture via UML Diagrams for the team) we learned that Notification Systems will not be supported in SQL Server 2008.  Since there is a hefty learning curve to configuring it (but once configured very powerful) I was going to write an open source application for setting up and configuring a Notification Service; I actually created a prototype application for work that required less than 50 lines of code for configuration...   Time had been budgeted for me to convert the prototype into an application; I told my manager I would have the open source product (at no cost to them) but the company wanted to have ownership.

Needless to say my programming efforts for Notification Services will be discontinued also (reference CompositeWPF ShellApp blogs)....
